April

Dear Parents,
What's cool at school? Third grade is is in the final trimester and we are moving right along. The girls have been sharpening their division skills with long division. Most are progressing very well. Continue to encourage the use of the multiplication and division flash cards.

The girls have selected their individual topics for research. Although I have strongly suggested that they choose topics where classroom books are easily accessable, some will have to obtain library books to support their nonfiction research project. The research will be done in the classroom. They may also find child friendly information on the internet. Each feature of this project is discussed in class. I will send home some information so that you too will know what is expected of your child. The whole nonfiction project will be completed in June.

We are also having a wonderful experience working with "Miss"D'Auria on a classroom STEM project in science. This project will include technology, engineering, and math as we study bean seeds. A final group presentation will be completed at the end of May.

Math will be continuing with a test including long division on Tuesday. This will be followed by study of geometry; fractions, including addition subtraction and mixed numbers; decimals; and probability.

Enjoy Spring,
Mrs. Marciano

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Dear Parents,

Believe it or not, your girls are almost half way through their third grade year.

The girls need to continue practicing the multiplication facts. We will begin the 6x facts this week, and continue through the 9's. Please help them review.

As I am sure the girls have told you, I have read the "Invention of Hugo Cabret" to the class. All throughly enjoyed the novel. Our next novel will be "The Cricket in Times Square". Each girl will need to purchase their own copy of the book by Mon., Jan. 23.

Next week, we will begin our responses to literature in our Reader's Response Notebook.
Each student will be expected to hand in their written response to what ever chapter book they are reading once a week on a pre-assigned day. The girls know all about this. I look forward to reading their response letters.

The most wonderful time of the year is here already. The girls have recorded "The Twelve Days of Christmas", for the V.A. Christmas CD. They sounded amazing even before editing.

As always, December will be a very busy month for all. There will be a few tests this month, however I will try to keep to a minimum.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on December 6, for report cards.

Happy Thanksgiving

Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, Nov.23, the girls may bring their own simple box breakfast to eat in the class room after our Thanksgiving prayer service. Please include a napkin and a drink.

The third grade is continuing with our exploration of myths and legends. The girls will begin writing their own myth or legend shortly.

Please continue to practice the Christmas songs. They're really a talented group of young ladies.

I am looking forward to seeing you on report card day.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

October

Dear Parents,

We are well on our way in third grade. The class is enjoying a read aloud chapter book, "The Haunting of Grade Three." One of the next selections will be the story of "Puss In Boots." Using this story frame will help to explore and develop character character traits ; geography skills, including features of places represented on maps; literary elements, including setting, characters, events, and problems and solutions; and elements of writing and grammer. We will also explore myths and legends.

I will be moving ahead in math, but will return to money concepts at a later date.

I have purchased "Weekly Reader, and Science Spin" for the class. Please enclose six dollars in an envelope with your childs name on the outside.
