WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL
Dear Parents'
Welcome to Mrs. Marciano's third grade class. This is the place to find out what the class is doing, and planning to do. As we all begin third grade, there are many wonderings and great expectations.
This year the class will read both independently, and in small groups . At home, the girls should read about thirty to forty minutes everyday. There are hundreds of great books in the classroom for the girls to choose. I will help them with their selections as they become familiar with the various genres.
Third grade math is fun. We investigate to solve problems, use manipulatives, flashcards, and even learn the language of math. I expect the class to continue working in MATHLETICS.
Community is the focus of social studies this year. We will study communities in America, as well as in Africa and Asia. Hopefully, our studies will include cultural events and museum visits.
Tests will be announced here, and in the homework notebook. Assessments are on going. Quizes may not be posted.
Your daughter's grades reflect her progress over a period of time. Classroom assessment includes the student's classwork, homework, tests, writing samples, and classroom projects. Your child's interest, participation, motivation, and attitude in addition to her ability to listen and follow directions are also strong parts of the assessment process.
Our first standardized test is the TERRANOVA which begins during the last week of September. This test is one tool used to assess your child's mastery of reading, math, language, and language machanics. The TERRANOVA results allow a teacher to view in some detail a child's strengths and/or weakness in a given area.
I am looking forward to an exciting journey through the third grade.
God Bless,
Lorraine Marciano
